Island in “Death Race 2000″?

August 27th, 2006

Where is this reservoir island, which appeared near the end of the strange 1970s movie?

The reservoir is in hilly country, with a large, almost pyramidal building near it, probably just above the dam. A cast member said, probably referring to this spot, that it was “down in Orange County,” in Southern California.

I note that there is a Pyramid Lake near Los Angeles. I’d start by looking there, assuming Roger Corman (he made the Orange County comment) doesn’t have a perfect memory of things that happened 30 years ago. I note that they also thank the Bureau of Land Management in Bakersfield in the credits, which is right around that area too.

    Thanks, Scott at Stomp Tokyo.

Pyramid Lake sounds promising, and has an island, but it isn’t the right lake:

That’s the Federal Building at 24000 Avila Road in Laguna Niguel, California.

The Sulphur Creek Reservoir is the body of water close to the building.
